The swift resolution of this crisis demonstrates the desire of various Libyan stakeholders to preserve the country’s unity and protect the management of its natural resources
TUNIS, Tunisia, July 12, 2018,-/African Media Agency (AMA)/- The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) welcomes the return to regular production and export of Libya’s oil under the control of the National Oil Corporation. This is in compliance with UN Security Council Resolutions (2259, 2278 and 2362.). UNSMIL is encouraged by the decision of the NOC to lift the force majeure, enabling the resumption of oil exports.
The swift resolution of this crisis demonstrates the desire of various Libyan stakeholders to preserve the country’s unity and protect the management of its natural resources for the benefit of its people. This emerged in the numerous meetings held by Special Representative to the Secretary-General Ghassan Salame with key Libyan parties, in support of a resolution to the crisis.
UNSMIL stands ready to work with the Libyan people, Libyan institutions and all stakeholders to achieve a fair and equitable distribution of the country’s natural wealth and to introduce greater transparency in the management of the country’s finances.
