Kenyan premier league defending champions Gor Mahia extended their lead at the helm of the Sportpesa Premiere league with 4-0 pulverization of Wazito FC in midweek match played at Moi Stadium, Kisumu.
Gor, which is also known as Kogalo are now five points ahead of their closest rival Mathare United at 37 points. Striker Meddie Kagere’s header put Gor ahead in the second minute of the match after receiving a superb cross from winger Innocent Wafula.
Gor could have doubled their lead immediately after the opener when the Ugandan import Godfrey Walusimbwi’s shot went wide after. Striker Bonface Omondi restored the wasted opportunity in the 28th minute with a thunderous strike 20 meters from the goal.
Outstanding Kagere gifted Gor third goal in the 35th minute but was ruled out by the center referee Israel Mpaima after he fouled goalkeeper.
Exciting Kahata add more misery on Wazito when he sloted Gor’s third goal in the 53rd minute before Omondi put his second goal the goalkeeper.
The match came two days after Kogalo defended their Sportpesa Super Cup trophy against the Tanzanian giant Simba in an 8- team tournament played at Afraha Stadium Nakuru. Gor crashed Simba with 2-0 to book a date with the English outfit Everton at Goodison Park.
The 16th champions played Everton last year in Darsalam, Tanzania, a match that ended 2-1 in favour of Everton. Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney opened the scoring with 30-yard strike on second debut. Jacques Tuyisenge cancelled Rooney’s opener with a powerful header before Kieran Dowell powered Everton to their first win against the Kenyan Champions.
