Buhari expected in Ghana as Special guest for 61st Independence

The Nigerian leader was invited by his Ghanaian counterpart, President Nana Akufo-Addo to be a special guest for the commemoration on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 Muhammadu Buhari told Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Rashid Bawa, in Abuja that “I will be in Ghana for your Independence Day celebration on March 6th, Ghana and Nigeria have come a long way and my presence there will cement the relationship between the two countries,” A statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, President Buhari is the only foreign leader invited to the historic event. The statement further said that President Buhari will use the unique opportunity to reaffirm the long-standing warm relations between the peoples and governments of both nations. He will among other things also underscore Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening the bilateral ties in furtherance of democracy, good governance and overall development not only in the West African sub-region but also the African continent. The president and his delegation, which includes, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, and the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno, will return to Abuja after the celebrations on Tuesday. Meanwhile, students, teachers as well as security personnel are going through final drills, musical rehearsals, acrobatic displays and other performances at the Black Star Square as part of preparations for the independence commemoration
