UMU IGBO UNITE TO HOST THIRTEENTH ANNUAL CONVENTION, CONNECTING, EMPOWERING, AND MOBILIZING YOUNG PROFESSIONALS FEATURING COMEDIAN CHIEF OBI, GUINNESS WORLD RECORD HOLDER DJ OBI

[Los Angeles, CA, August 3 – 6, 2017] Umu Igbo Unite (UIU) will host its Thirteenth Annual Convention from Thursday, August 3 through Sunday, August 4 at the Sheraton Gateway LAX hotel, Los Angeles, CA. Sponsored by Chick Fil A, Moravia Health, Jamba Juice, GEANCO and Ije The World Traveler, Vanderbilt University Owen Graduate School of Management
Umu Igbo Unite boasts 11 Chapters across the United States in strategic cities (and rapidly growing), 1000+ attendees to their National Conference annually, over 16,000 individuals in their extended network and is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Their mission is not only to connect, empower and mobilize a diverse subset of Nigerian talent to strengthen their professional development and network in the United States, but to also create pathways for the talented next generation to stay connected to Africa and bring their talents home.
The theme for UIU 2017 Convention, “Oganiru”, means to make progress. The convention will focus on connecting individuals through networking opportunities and motivating them to create an impact in their various communities.
Signature events hosted by world famous Comedian Chief Obi and tunes by Guinness World Record Holder DJ Obi.
Other 2017 Special Guests include relationship expert, Ekene Onu, actresses Jessica Obilom and Chinwe Ifeachor, comedians Lesley, Kelly Okpagu, Canice Nnana and Chika Moma among others. The Convention will also feature panelists: Afam Onyema and Dr. Achilefu who are renowned philanthropists and inventors respectively.
Convention Highlights
– Thursday, August 3rd
The premiere UIU’s Got Talent Competition @9pm featuring a colorful array of singers, dancers, comedians, impressionists and hopeful stars, all vying for their chance to win a $1,000 prize.
– Friday, August 4th
Second Annual Date Auction @9pm will bring together potential love interests and all proceeds will go towards the organization’s charitable arm: UIU Cares.
– Saturday, August 5th
Annual Cultural, Business and Professional Summit @12:45pm will host an array of panels and seminars that will engage over 1,000 attendees. The night will culminate in the Annual Banquet @8:30pm which will continue the showcase of culture through dance, comedy and special awards to designated chapters.
About Umu Igbo Unite
Founded in 2005, Umu Igbo Unite has held an annual convention each year which consists of many events aimed at supporting cultural, professional and social growth amongst Igbo professionals. People from other cultural backgrounds and ethnicities that are interested in professional networking and learning more about the Igbo culture are welcome to attend. Umu Igbo Unite is a non-profit US based organization that consists of a wide range of young professionals and college students (from 21 to 35 years of age) of Igbo heritage residing in the US. Our membership targets people from all parts of the Southeastern Igbo speaking states of Nigeria including: Abia, Anambra, Delta, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, Bayelsa, Akwa-Ibom, Cross Rivers and Rivers states. Currently, local chapters include: Atlanta GA, Houston TX, Dallas TX, New York Tri State Area (NY, NJ, CT), DMV, Boston MA, Cincinnati OH, Charlotte NC, Minnesota Twin Cities, Detroit MI and Los Angeles CA.
Umu Igbo Unite Chapters help provide a local community for cultural awareness, networking, socializing and intellectual growth through the care and nurturing of each other as well as through constructive discussions, activities and showcases. New chapter formation is supported and encouraged across the world and are accepted upon application and approval from the Umu Igbo Unite Executive Board.
