23th August 2026 – South Africa and Zimbabwe have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation through several agreements and Memoranda of Understanding covering agriculture, trade, investment, gender equality, correctional services, diplomacy, arts and culture. The agreements were signed in Pretoria at the conclusion of the Fourth Session of the South Africa–Zimbabwe Bi-National Commission, co-chaired by President Cyril Ramaphosa and President Emmerson Mnangagwa. This renewed strategic partnership reflects the importance of stronger economic and diplomatic ties across the African continent.
Zimbabwe remains one of South Africa’s largest trading partners, and the two countries are placing greater emphasis on investment, trade and economic integration. The agreements demonstrate a shared commitment to turning bilateral relations into practical opportunities for businesses, communities and investors. Stronger implementation of these commitments can contribute to increased regional trade and create a stronger foundation for sustainable economic growth.

If countries across the continent increase intra-African trade, strengthen regional supply chains and promote investment across borders, Africa can build a more integrated and powerful economic market. The continent’s vast natural resources, young population, growing industries and expanding consumer markets provide significant opportunities for future development.
The South Africa–Zimbabwe partnership is an important example of this vision. Strong implementation of bilateral agreements, greater investment and expanding trade can contribute not only to the prosperity of the two countries but also to the wider economic transformation of Africa. A more connected Africa will be a stronger Africa—and a financially powerful Africa will become an increasingly important force in the global economy.
