Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe has introduced a new United States Dollar denominated prepaid VISA card designed as an everyday card for everyday transactions.
From online shopping and travel bookings to subscriptions and daily purchases worldwide, the card empowers customers to pay seamlessly across borders while maintaining full control over their spending.
This premium yet accessible card arrives at a time when demand for reliable foreign currency payment solutions continues to grow, driven by digital commerce, cross‑border trade and international mobility.
Stanbic Bank’s entry into the prepaid card segment positions the institution to meet evolving customer needs while reinforcing its reputation as an innovation‑led financial services provider.
Unlike traditional debit or credit cards, the Stanbic prepaid VISA card operates strictly on a prepaid basis, meaning customers can only spend funds that have been loaded onto the card. This eliminates credit exposure while promoting disciplined financial behaviour.
It is a low‑KYC card, requiring only a valid ID, proof of residence and passport‑sized photos to apply, making it simple, fast and widely accessible.
“We are empowering customers with a product that not only enables seamless global transactions but also reinforces financial control and security in an increasingly digital economy,” Wonder Mabande, Head of Card Issuing and Acquiring in Business and Commercial Banking, pointed out.
The card was thoughtfully created to serve everyone including students, professionals, families, cross‑border traders and individuals who rely on secure online payment solutions.
It enables consumers to conveniently pay for online shopping, travel reservations, subscriptions and everyday purchases at any location worldwide where VISA is accepted.
The Stanbic prepaid VISA card is seamlessly connected to the bank’s digital platforms that include Blue247, Internet Banking and the Stanbic App, empowering customers with instant oversight of their spending.
Its standout feature is affordability, as it carries no monthly maintenance charges, making it widely accessible. Funding the card is simple and flexible, whether through cash deposits at branches, Stanbic ATMs or transfers from USD accounts.
Security is central to its design, incorporating Europay, MasterCard and Visa (EMV) chip technology, Personal Identification Number (PIN) protection and One‑Time‑Password (OTP) verification, all reinforced by VISA’s global fraud monitoring systems.
The introduction of the prepaid VISA card enhances Stanbic Bank’s competitive edge, promotes the use of electronic payments and provides a secure alternative to cash.
“The prepaid VISA card allows Stanbic Bank to extend its value proposition beyond traditional banking customers, reaching individuals who require simple, secure and globally accepted payment solutions.
“With this innovation, the bank reaffirms its commitment to empowering customers with practical solutions that simplify everyday transactions while opening doors to global opportunities,” Mabande added.
