BUEA, PAV – The Tiko Council has opened discussions on a potential international partnership aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery and medical education within the municipality. The discussions took place on Tuesday, May 26, between the Mayor of Tiko, Peter Ikome Mesoso III, and Dr Lingegowda K.B, Vice Chancellor of Sri Siddhartha Academy of Higher Education, during an official visit to the council premises.
The visit focused on discussions surrounding a proposed partnership between Tiko Council and the Indian higher education institution, particularly in the area of healthcare development and medical training. Accompanied by Dr Becke Smith Molua Esq, Chief Executive Officer of Bookers Law Firm International, Dr Lingegowda K.B examined possible areas of collaboration intended to improve healthcare services in the municipality.
Among the proposals discussed was the establishment of an exchange programme that would enable medical students from Tiko Municipality to pursue studies in India free of charge. The partnership also seeks to facilitate the donation of medical equipment to health institutions within the subdivision and support the development of health infrastructure.
As part of the visit, the delegation led by Mayor Peter Ikome Mesoso III toured the Tiko District Hospital, where they held a working session with health officials and stakeholders. Speaking during the session, Dr Lingegowda K.B said his mission to Tiko was centred on improving human welfare and supporting better healthcare outcomes for the local population.
The Vice Chancellor further assured local authorities that his institution was ready to support healthcare initiatives within Tiko Municipality, especially at the level of the Tiko District Hospital and other public health facilities. He encouraged council authorities to formally present the needs of health institutions in the municipality so that areas requiring urgent support could be identified and addressed.
Mayor Peter Ikome Mesoso III, for his part, welcomed the proposed collaboration, saying that partnerships in the health sector remain essential for improving access to quality healthcare services for the population.
The mayor reiterated the council’s commitment to initiatives capable of enhancing healthcare delivery, medical education and infrastructural development within the municipality. The initiative is expected to strengthen ties between Tiko Municipality and international institutions while opening new opportunities for local students and health practitioners.
