BUEA, PAV – The Prime Minister, Head of Government and Representative of the Head of State, Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute, has inaugurated the first-ever “Intelligent Classroom” in the history of secondary education in Cameroon at Lycée General Leclerc, Yaoundé.
The state-of-the-art learning space is the result of a strategic partnership between the Government of Cameroon and the Commonwealth of Nations, through the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council, in collaboration with Promethean.
Speaking at the high-profile ceremony, Prime Minister Dion Ngute described the initiative as a concrete expression of President Paul Biya’s vision of transforming ideas into tangible realities. He emphasised that the Intelligent Classroom represents a new generation of learning infrastructure designed to modernise teaching methods and equip students with 21st-century skills.
According to the Head of Government, the innovative classroom model, believed to be one of its kind on the African continent, will radically transform the educational experience by making lessons more interactive, inclusive, and productive.
“The Intelligent Classroom will transform skills into competences, promote equity in education, and shape students into leaders of innovation in the digital century,” the Prime Minister stated.
One of the unique features of the new learning space is its adaptability. Officials noted that the system can be deployed anywhere in the country, even in areas without stable internet connectivity or electricity, making it a viable solution for expanding digital education nationwide.
The inauguration ceremony, part of the broader digitisation project of secondary education in Cameroon, was attended by the Chairman of the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council, Lord Jonathan Peter Marland, members of government, national and international partners, stakeholders in the education sector, and students.

The landmark launch is a step toward aligning Cameroon’s secondary education system with global technological standards. Plans are underway to replicate the Intelligent Classroom model in other schools across the country, signalling a new chapter in Cameroon’s educational transformation.
