Malawi President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has been appointed Honorary Patron of the Peace Parks Foundation, a leading conservation organization dedicated to the establishment and management of transfrontier conservation areas across Africa.
The appointment, confirmed in a statement issued by Chief Secretary Justin Saidi, recognizes President Mutharika’s exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to sustainable development, regional integration, and ecological resilience.
According to Joaquim Alberto Chissano, former President of Mozambique and current Chairperson of the Foundation, the honorary role comes at a pivotal moment for conservation efforts on the continent.
Chissano noted that President Mutharika’s strong continental and global standing makes him well-positioned to champion cross-border environmental initiatives, promote biodiversity protection, and strengthen collaborative conservation frameworks across Africa.
The Peace Parks Foundation plays a critical role in advancing transboundary conservation, fostering cooperation between neighboring countries, and supporting sustainable socio-economic development in communities surrounding protected areas.
President Mutharika’s appointment is expected to further elevate Malawi’s profile in regional environmental diplomacy while reinforcing Africa’s collective commitment to conservation-driven development.
