Growing up between Nigeria and the United States, Dr. Ogenetega Jeremiah Madedor, MD ’20, witnessed the realities many families face when healthcare is out of reach. Volunteering in a Veterans Affairs hospital, serving in homeless shelters, and joining his family’s church mission trips exposed him early to people whose medical needs often went unmet.
His decision to attend St. George’s University School of Medicine (SGU) in Grenada, West Indies, shaped the next phase of that journey. SGU placed him in a multicultural academic setting, with rigorous coursework and structured support systems designed to prepare students for demanding clinical paths. It was challenging and transformative.
“SGU was one of the most challenging and exhausting journeys of my life. I wouldn’t change that for the world because it prepared me for the roadblocks ahead.”
During his clinical rotations, Dr. Madedor worked closely with underserved patients, people often juggling financial strain, time constraints, or difficulty navigating care systems. “Means and access are major issues. Patients may have insurance but no time to get care, or they lack resources completely.” Says Dr. Madedor.
These experiences reinforced his belief in patient-centered care. “SGU’s clinical faculty taught me not to see a patient as a pit stop,” he says, “but as someone you guide toward their next destination.” This philosophy continues to shape his approach to medicine.
Following medical school, Dr. Madedor pursued advanced training in infectious disease and is currently an infectious disease fellow at a university hospital in the United States, having completed his fellowship in July 2025. His work today remains focused on improving healthcare access, particularly for marginalized communities affected by systemic inequities.
Beyond academics and clinical training, SGU left a lasting personal impression. Dr. Madedor fondly recalls late-night study sessions, a strong sense of community, and the familiar campus food vendors that added warmth to daily student life. Feeling supported and at home from the outset allowed him to grow both professionally and personally.
The path ahead is one he approaches with intention. Driven by a belief that quality care should be accessible, he continues to build a career that merges clinical expertise with purpose. Dr. Madedor’s story stands as an example of what is possible when dedication meets opportunity, and how medical training can evolve into advocacy, skill, and meaningful impact.
