BUEA, Cameroon — The Head Coach of the Indomitable Lions, Marc Brys, has categorically denied reports that he has resigned from his post, dismissing as false and misleading a letter circulating online purporting to be his official resignation.
In a statement released Wednesday, July 23, Brys expressed “surprise” and “concern” over the widespread circulation of the document, which he claims did not originate from him and was likely the result of a compromised email account.
“I never wrote or sent any resignation letter,” Brys stated firmly. “It appears, upon examination of the information in my possession, that my email account was most likely compromised.”
The Belgian tactician, who took over as head coach of Cameroon’s national team in April 2024, lamented the rush with which the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) and other stakeholders appeared to accept and disseminate the resignation news without verifying its authenticity directly with him.
“I am deeply surprised that no official, including FECAFOOT, bothered to contact me personally before disseminating this alleged information,” he said. “It is difficult for me not to see it as a form of deliberate haste, or even a tacit desire for my ouster.”
The letter, believed to be a resignation, had sparked reactions across the Cameroonian football community, especially given its timing ahead of key fixtures for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Brys emphasised the need for “unity, cohesion, and serenity” around the national team, especially in this sensitive period for Cameroonian football.

“Cameroon, in its sporting and symbolic dimensions, deserves better than orchestrated or maintained instability,” he warned.
The coach also used the opportunity to remind authorities that several administrative issues related to his contract remain unresolved, despite his having assumed full duties months ago. He expressed hope that under the “high authority” of the Ministry of Sports, a fair and swift resolution can be found.
“We must be allowed to fully devote ourselves to our mission: to make Cameroon shine on the pitch, with honour, discipline, and performance,” Brys added.
In closing, Brys requested that his statement be treated as official and authentic and shared widely to counter the spread of misinformation and confusion.
The Cameroon Football Federation(FECAFOOT), through its Secretary General Mandong Isaac Noé, confirmed receipt of Brys’ resignation, stating that the federation has contacted public authorities to urgently address the technical vacancy ahead of key international fixtures.
“The urgency is justified by the upcoming deadlines for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and the final phase of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled for December 2025 in Morocco,” Mandong noted.
FECAFOOT also reassured the public of its commitment to football development, despite ongoing tensions that have plagued its relationship with the now-departed coach.

Despite being relatively unknown in African football, Marc Brys’ record in charge of the Indomitable Lions has been nothing short of impressive. In 12 matches, he remains undefeated, securing 7 wins and 5 draws. Under his guidance, Cameroon qualified for AFCON 2025 and currently sits second in their 2026 World Cup qualifying group.
However, Brys’ time at the helm has been marred by internal wrangling, particularly with FECAFOOT President Samuel Eto’o. Tensions began at his appointment, which the Ministry made of Sports without full FECAFOOT involvement. Disputes over staffing, notably the federation’s refusal to allow assistant coach Monounga on the touchline, further strained the relationship.
Despite these challenges, the Belgian has brought a level of tactical discipline and calm to the team, with results on the pitch speaking volumes.
