African Court on Human, Peoples’ Rights Begins its 67th Ordinary Session

By Prosper Makene The African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights will begin its 67th Ordinary Session today, Monday, 07 November 2022, at its seat in Arusha, Tanzania. During the opening session, the new Deputy Registrar, Ms Grace Wakio Kakai, a national of Kenya, will be sworn in. She takes over from Mr Nouhou Diallo, a citizen of Burkina Faso, who has retired. Before being appointed to the post, Ms Kakai was the Head of the Legal Division of the African Court. The Judges, among others, will examine a number of applications during the four-week session that will close on 02 December 2022. The Court will deliver Judgments on 01 December from 10H00(EA Time). However, the Court is composed of eleven Judges, nationals of Member States of the African Union elected in their individual capacity. The Court meets four times a year in Ordinary Sessions and may hold Extra-Ordinary Sessions.
