Tanzania: Simiyu Airport in Bariadi to promote tourism, increase regional revenues-DC

By Frank Aman in Simiyu Region [caption id="attachment_100702" align="alignnone" width="1280"] Bariadi District, Simiyu Region[/caption] The construction of Tnaznaia’s Simiyu Regional Airport which is expected to be built at Sapiwi ward in Bariadi District, Simiyu Region would improve welfare of the residents surrounding this facility as well as it will increase regional revenues in general, the Bariadi District Commissioner (DC) Mr Lupakisyo Kapange has asserted. DC Kapange made the remarks when he toured Igegu Village in Sapiwi ward, an area which will be used for the construction of Simiyu Airport, where he said that after the completion of the project would enable large number of tourists to prefer to use Simiyu region as a pathway to enter into Serengeti National Parks and other tourists attractions found in the region. He said that revenue of the Bariadi District Council would increase due to the fact that some of the Tourists would prefer to use Simiyu Airport to go to the nearby national Parks such as Serengeti National Park and other attractive areas including Kijereshi and Old Maswa Game Reserves found within the Simiyu Region. "The completion of the construction of this Airport for the Simiyu Region will increase the income of the Region and Bariadi District in general as many tourists will start using this gate located in the Simiyu Region which borders the Serengeti National Park and also visit other tourist areas such as such as the Kijereshi Game Reserve," he said. Recently, the residents of the villages of Igegu and Ng'alita in Sapiwi Ward in Bariadi district expressed their intention to give up their lands to allow the construction of the International Airport for the Simiyu Region and explained that its establishment will increase the income of individual citizens because there will be and business cycle in those areas. Mr. Ndaturu Malemi, a resident of the area where the construction of the compound is expected to be built, said that they are happy with the government's move to build an airport in the Bariaidi district because now the issue of its construction is a step of development for the area. In 2018, during the survey of the area where Simiyu Airport would be built, the Chief Land Officer who was present at the moment Ms. Cecilia Mwing'uri said that the National Airports Authority (TAA) has already provided funds for the evaluation, valuation and testing of the areas of the facility where it will be built and as soon as the exercise is completed, the residents of the surveyed areas will be compensated to allow the construction to begin.
