By Samuel Ouma Kenya women's national rugby sevens team Lionesses have been grouped B of the World Cup Sevens-cum-Commonwealth Games qualifier. The pool also has Uganda and Zambia. South Africa have been drawn in Pool 'A' alongside Zimbabwe and Senegal while Madagascar, Tunisia and Ghana will compete in Pool 'C'. The qualifier will take place in late April in Jemmal, Tunisia. The qualifier winner will appear at both events, while the runners-up will receive a ticket to the Commonwealth Games. The Commonwealth Games will be held in Birmingham in July, while the World Cup Sevens will be held in South Africa in September. Lionesses coach Felix Okoth said they expect stiff competition from their opponents. “It's going to be exciting with tickets to the Club Games and World Cup to fight for. It will be tough but the girls are more than ready for the challenge. We have a couple of days left to finalise our preparations,” he said.
