President Ramaphosa to participate in 31st African Peer Review Forum of Heads of State and Government

President Cyril Ramaphosa will today, 04 February 2022, participate in a virtual meeting of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) Forum of Heads of States and Governments.The President will deliver remarks during the opening session in his capacity as outgoing Chairperson of the APR Forum.President Ramaphosa assumed the Chair of the APR Forum in February 2020 and at the end of the current APR Forum he will relinquish the chair.The Summit is expected to adopt the conduct of peer review of Nigeria, Namibia, Niger and South Africa and discuss reports on the targeted review of Kenya.The Summit will also receive a report on the African Governance Report 2021: African Futures Towards Agenda 2063. On Sunday, 06 February 2022, President Ramaphosa is also expected to deliver a report on the outcomes of the 30th and 31st APR Forum Meetings at the African Union Assembly.The African Peer Review Mechanism was established in 2003 as a specialised agency of the African Union that serves as a platform for sharing experiences and reinforcing best practices towards political stability, accelerated economic growth, and regional and continental integration as well as sustainable development.It further seeks to foster change in underlying deficiencies in governance and socio-economic development processes among member states.The Mechanism uses a holistic review process that distinguishes it from other institutions through inclusive dialogue, independent and objective reviews, peer learning and compliance monitoring.
