Prime Minister Maïga spoke before the world on 25 September 2021 in New York, during the general debate of the United Nations General Assembly. He reiterated criticisms against France for their unilateral withdrawal of Operation Barkhane army.

This is against the backdrop where armed terrorism in Mali have reformed and gained strength. Malian people are suffering from the horrendous and dangerous situation with mass killings. Victims include women and newborns. The French withdrawal has worsened the situation.

Prime MinisterMaïgastressed that the Malian people have a desire for peace. Despite the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), the Malian situation has scarcely improved. He therefore urged the United Nations to reconsider its approach in helping Mali more effectively in eradicating the threats.
